How do I find out if my vehicle is suitable for converting to duel fuel? Please complete the contact us enquiry form with the vehicle make, model, engine cc and year of build and we will be only too happy to forward you a sample price for the conversion. Alternatively, if distance is prohibitive, please advise us of your postcode and we will forward contact details of your nearest recommended installer. Can my diesel car be converted? We only recommend that petrol vehicles be converted to dual fuel LPG. Work being carried out on HGV diesel engines is progressing but not viable on smaller engines. For further information on diesel/LPG blend for HGV please contact the LP Gas Association. I have a direct petrol injection (GDI) engine on my vehicle. Is this suitable for converting? Development of a conversion system for GDI engines is currently being trialled but is very vehicle specific. As the petrol injectors are housed inside the manifold a conventional SGI system is not suitable. How long does the conversion take? The average conversion takes 2 - 3 days. Some vehicle conversions involve complex tank options and may take upto a week. Why is there a need for an independent technical service? With the rapid growth in the demand for LPG dual fueled vehicles, there has been a surge in the number of companies offering conversions. Sadly many of which have been less than particular about the standard of equipment used and/or have paid little attention to regulations and standards. There is a growing demand for vehicle inspections and reparations in line with current statutory requirements. The company who installed/supplied my conversion is no longer trading. Can Autogas Technicians help? Yes. As with many relatively new markets it is regrettable that installation companies may cease trading with little or no notice to customers. Due to the specialist nature of LPG conversions, knowledge of specific conversion equipment will be required to service and maintain systems and to repair them in the event of a problem arising. Autogas Technicians have the qualification, experience and technical expertise to assist and are approved service agents for GM Vauxhall for their range of dual fuel vehicles. What can this technical service offer to the customer? Autogas Technicians offer a discrete vehicle inspection service with full report. This may be requested by the customer with or without the knowledge of the original installer. Whilst the co-operation of the installer is usually considered helpful we appreciate that there may be occasions when an independent inspection is required. Can you commission my self- fit conversion? Yes. Whilst self-fit conversions are not encouraged, due to the nature of working with LPG, it is acknowledged that there are many very capable engineers and motor mechanics who have the ability to fit LPG conversions and who may wish to install their own conversion. Autogas Technicians can carry out conversion inspections in line with the Road Vehicle [Construction and Use] Regulations 1986 and the LP Gas Association Codes of Practice 11 :2001(plus ammendments) and make suitable recommendations before issuing a certificate of conformity. What is a certificate of conformity and why do I need one? Section 7 Para 7.2 of the COP 11 : 2001 states "that a competent person responsible for ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice and relevant Statutory Regulations should, upon satisfactory completion of all tuning and tests, issue a signed certificate of conformity for the purchaser". This will be required by most of the leading vehicle insurance companies who will need to be informed, along with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (Swansea) that the vehicle is running on dual fuel LPG. Failure to do so may invalidate any insurance policy and by informing the DVLA they can update your vehicle log book so that you get a discount on your renewed vehicle tax. Who are Autogas Technicians? Autogas Technicians is the title we have given to the vastly experienced LPG engineers at Autogas 2000, and a select group of installers throughout the UK commissioned to carry out vehicle inspections at the recommendation of Autogas 2000 Ltd. All of these installers have gained considerable experience over many years, most having approval from the LP Gas Association and the Energy Savings Trust –Powershift who insist on stringent inspection of both installers and premises.
